Aachen lies in the heart of Europe and is accessible from all directions by trains, cars and airplanes.
Climate-conscious travelers can easily ride the rails to Aachen. Intercity-Express (ICE) high-speed trains connect Aachen with most major cities in Germany. The Thalys high-speed train service connects Aachen with Amsterdam, Paris, and Brussels. And, via Brussels you can connect to London and the UK rail network on the Eurostar high-speed railway service.
Thanks to a cooperation between EAC 2020, RWTH International Academy and Deutsche Bahn you will be able to travel to Aachen by train on an Event Ticket. This offer will soon be made available exclusively at this website.
The Event Ticket offers a special rate and generally includes a city ticket, but it is not available for every possible route. Note, that the Event Ticket is only valid in combination with registration to EAC 2020. Anyone who uses this fare should therefore print out their conference registration confirmation when travelling by train.
Taking the car to Aachen? The city is connected to the German autobahn system via the A4 and A44 highways. The A4 starts northwest of Aachen where it links to the Dutch A76 highway, and ends east of Cologne. The A44 highway begins in Aachen at the German-Belgian border where it links to the E40, and ends its western stretch south of Düsseldorf. Sharing a car is recommended.
Parking in Aachen’s city center is restricted, so you best book a car park with your hotel. Alternatively, you can leave your car at a Park & Ride lot or in the parking garage of the Eurogress convention center. The latter has 600 parking spaces and currently costs 12 EUR per 24 hours.
There are several international airports within a 200 km radius around Aachen, although none of them is close enough to take a shuttle bus or taxi to the city. Taking a taxi or an Uber to Aachen can be prohibitively expensive and is therefore not a recommended option! Instead you better take a train from these airports to get to Aachen.
